(The Hill) — With Election Day just shy of two weeks away, comedian and TV personality Bill Maher urged Democrats on Friday to stop waiting for an "October surprise."

"Democrats need to stop thinking an October surprise is going to save us from a second Trump term," he said Friday on "Real Time with Bill Maher," referencing an event that could take place to influence the election.

Beside him on screen, a front-page photo of Newsweek with the words "October Surprise" on a picture of former President Trump rump and Vice President Harris flashed on screen.

"I mean, look at this. We’ve gotten so used to thinking that there’s always an October surprise coming that when it doesn’t happen, it actually seems weird," he quipped, in remarks highlighted by Mediaite.

Maher also mentioned the infamous "Access Hollywood" video from 2016 in which the former president bragged about grabbing women sexually without consent and "a party at Diddy's house where you just dance," referring to the indictment brought against the hip-hop artist Sean Combs.

The comedian listed several other "surprises" that had sway with voters, arguing that with Trump, the former president could do many things that "wouldn't move the needle at all."

"Trump's superpower as a candidate is that he has been so constantly and ubiquitously awful for so long that it's simply no longer seen," he said.

Maher has consistently slammed Trump for his rhetoric and attacks on political opponents, including Harris. He has also insisted that the former president is going to lose in November.

Trump has hit back, however, calling the TV host "low rated."

The Hill has contacted the Trump campaign for comment.
